Kalmar, the business area providing container handling solutions within Cargotec, has received an order for 24 EDRIVE® ESC straddle carriers from the Port of Hamburg. Fourteen straddle carriers will be delivered to the HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai GmbH and 10 to the Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg GmbH. The first units will be delivered at the end of 2005, with completion scheduled for spring 2006.
The Kalmar 7th generation straddle carriers that will be delivered to the Port of Hamburg respond well to the need for increased productivity. The benefits of the handling equipment are automation, heavier load handling possibilities and minimized operational costs. The Port of Hamburg's position as a key port for growing Asian imports to Northern Europe and as a major gateway to the Baltic Countries has increased the need for the terminal operators to expand their container handling capabilities.
