Cargotec Receives Hatch Cover Order from China

29/12/2005

Cargotec's MacGREGOR business area providing marine cargo handling solutions has received an order to supply hatch covers for four post-Panamax container ships. The ships are commissioned by the Chinese shipowner COSCO and built in China at the Nantong COSCO KHI (NACKS) yard, which is a joint venture of COSCO and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The ships are due for delivery from early 2008.

The ships have a capacity of 10,000 TEU i.e. they can transport a maximum of 10,000 containers of 20 ft. Container capacity will be arranged on deck and in holds accessed by MacGREGOR lift-away hatch covers. Each ship comprises 10 holds each with two hatches requiring a total of 79 panels.

MacGREGOR has earlier been chosen as the hatch cover supplier for four other 10,000 TEU container ships on order for COSCO at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Korea.
