Press Release

Cargotec Receives Order Worth over EUR 10 Million for Conversion of RoRo Vessel Car Decks

28/11/2007

Cargotec's MacGREGOR business area providing marine cargo handling and offshore solutions, has received an order for conversion of car decks in six RoRo vessels. The conversion will take place during 2010-2012 and the value of the order exceeds EUR 10 million.

The vessels which will be delivered for Finnish shipowner Finnlines will be built in Jinling shipyard in China. After the vessels have been built, MacGREGOR will install on each vessel about 5,500m2 of car decks designed and manufactured by MacGREGOR. The converted car decks and access ramps will be electrically operated. Electric drives offer many advantages to the shipowners and shipbuilders compared with hydraulic versions. The main advantages are that there is no risk of hydraulic oil leakages, there is no need to fit hydraulic pipework on board, electric drives are easy to monitor and maintain, and they offer energy savings.
