Kalmar, the business area providing container handling solutions within Cargotec, has received an order for 84 terminal tractors from port operator DP World. The terminal tractors will be delivered during summer 2007 to Jebel Ali Port situated close to Dubai.
The terminal tractors will be delivered to a new terminal currently under construction and starting its operations during year 2007. The Jebel Ali Port handled approximately 9 million TEUs (a TEU stands for one 20-foot container) in 2006 and it is the largest duty free port in the Middle East. The new terminal will expand the port's capacity by 5 million TEUs. In addition to terminal tractors, Kalmar has earlier delivered to the DP World among others straddle carriers, rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) and empty container handlers.
