Application-based terminal tractors
result in significant number of orders

Kalmar’s application-based product palette for terminal tractors has resulted in a significant number of orders from around the world for 2003.

Offering specialised models for ro-ro, lo-lo & intermodal, distribution & warehousing and heavy industry, Kalmar’s recent orders include 90 units from Singapore, 38 units from Egypt, 35 units from Romania, 33 units from the UK, 30 units from Spain, 14 units from Russia, ten units from Sweden, and five units from Germany.

One of the lates examples of Kalmar’s application-based design are the PT122 port tractor.

Kalmar’s success in the market is due to the fact that it supplies customers with purpose-built tractors, tailored for efficiency but offering cost-effective and simple handling solutions. All Kalmar tractor models offer the latest technology engines, which more than fulfil the requirements for all exhaust emission regulations both in the EU and the US for off-road vehicles.

The latest examples of Kalmar’s application-based design are the PT122 port tractor and ST122 distribution tractor models. Both of these have numerous features dedicated to fulfilling a given job to an optimal effect. An ideal practical example is the smooth, even rear-deck on the ST122 which features wide and safe stairways on both sides. This feature is extremely useful for distribution operations, as drivers need to make air and electrical connections for every trailer. However, in terms of yard operations, this feature is less important as the tractor is usually coupled to the same trailer.

The company last year introduced its TRL-182 low-rider terminal tractor, designed especially for ro-ro applications that require a low fifth wheel height, as well as a new cabin design for all terminal tractor models. UK sales manager Maurice Loades find that the cabin design in Kalmar terminal tractors is a real sales boost:

“As of last spring, the tractors are available with the engine side door (ESD) cabin, featuring improved visibility, safer access, improved noise insulation and all-round better driver ergonomics.”

All Kalmar tractor models offer the latest technology engines, which more than fulfil the requirements for all exhaust emission regulations both in the EU and the US for off-road vehicles.
