Kalmar provides Dutch steel mill with
comprehensive handling and servicing solution

In a deal that is consistent with the trend towards customers preferring rental and servicing contracts rather than outright purchase, Kalmar Industries’ distributor in The Netherlands, Peinemann-Kalmar, has delivered three new 16-ton lift trucks to Fundia Nedstaal. This company, part of the finish Rautaruukki Group, operates a steel rolling mill near Rotterdam in The Netherlands.

The contract signed between Fundia Nedstaal and Peinemann-Kalmar is far-reaching. Peinemann-Kalmar will assume responsibility for the servicing of all of Fundia Nedstaal’s mobile plants including lift trucks and terminal tractors, utilising the steel mill’s existing workshop facilities. Servicing of the three new 16 tonnes will be carefully scheduled and concentrated on one morning a week. The maintenance team will also become Peinemann-Kalmar employees.

The rolling mill operates continuously 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and the new lift truck, are expected to clock up at least 4,000 hours per annum. Their duties will include unloading steel slabs from incoming road vehicles and rail wagons and loading finished products such as coils of wire. This wire is supplied to companies manufacturing a wide range of products including tools, springs and nails.

Ad Kornet Managing Director of Peinemann-Kalmar, says his company expects to sign deals in the future:

"More and more companies in The Netherlands are realising the benefits of rental and service agreements whereby they are given a fixed price for keeping their equipment fleet operational, we will take on responsibility for a wide range of machinery, irrespective of make.

"Peinemann-Kalmar now has over 2,000 units in its rental fleet including 1,300 lift trucks up to 32 tons capacity, 400 aerial platforms, 70 mobile cranes, 30 terminal tractors and almost 100 Kalmar reach stacks and empty container handlers. These numbers are sure to grow as will our 70-strong workforce, as more customers switch to rental and service agreements".
