Kalmar sells Finmec to Svets & Mekanogruppen AB

Kalmar Industries, which is part of Kone Cargotec, has sold Finmec AS to Svets & Mekanogruppen AB. Located in Maardu, near Tallinn, Finmec specializes in the welding and provision of steel components for heavy equipment.

This divestment is part of the continuing implementation of Kalmar's strategy to concentrate on the marketing, development, assembly and servicing of container and heavy materials handling equipment.

This sale follows other outsourcing deals, including:

  • The divestment of cabin manufacturer Velsa to Finland Rautaruukki Corporation;
  • the outsourcing of ship-to-shore crane steel fabrication and assembly in Rotterdam to Hollandia; and
  • the sale of Kalmar welding operation in Ljungby, also to Svets & Mekanogruppen AB.

Finmec 133 employees will find a new home within the Svets & Mekanogruppen group of companies, where corporate competence, capacity and reputation will provide ample scope for further development.

Svets & Mekanogruppen AB has shown vigorous growth for a number of years now and the acquisition of Finmec is in line with the company policy of expanding its manufacture of worked components. Svets & Mekanogruppen AB is based in Southern Sweden.
