Maher Terminals in the Port of New York/New Jersey recently outfitted its entire straddle carrier fleet with Kalmar Smartpath, a container position verification system, and Fleetview, a system for monitoring and coordinating container handling equipment. The installation, which was finalised in May 2007, involved 183 straddle carriers. Maher Terminals is Kalmar largest global straddle carrier customer.
Smartpath – designed for straddle carriers and rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes – can be incorporated into all leading yard planning and equipment control systems. As a completely integrated technology, the straddle carrier driver receives instructions for his next task from a digital monitor installed in his cabin, which exchanges information with the yard management system. There is no manual input and thus no opportunity for mistakes and misplaced containers.
Fleetview, Kalmar newest automation software, offers control room operators improved management and coordination of large equipment fleet handling. Fleetview optimises the usage of the fleet and minimises travel without a container, providing significant improvements in productivity.
Kalmar other innovative onboard products and automated systems today include:
•Smartrail@: an autosteering and container position verification system for RTGs.
•Remote Machine Interface (RMI): a tool for remote machine monitoring, maintenance tasking and reporting, suitable for use with all Kalmar equipment.
•Automatic stacking cranes (ASC): an automated handling solution providing high productivity and stacking density for large terminals.
