2008-12-22 Kalmar to supply six RTGs to the Port of Livorno in Italy

22/12/2008

Press release, December 22, 2008
Cargotec Kalmar business area has received two orders to supply its E-One+ rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to Terminal Darsena Toscana (Contshipitalia Group) operating in the Port of Livorno (Leghorn), Italy. The first order for two RTGs was placed during the second quarter and a subsequent order for four RTGs was placed during the third quarter 2008.

The first two RTGs will be delivered by the end of 2008 and the other four RTGs during summer 2009. All the RTGs will be fitted with Kalmar Smartrail autosteering and container position verification systems.

Kalmar's E-One+ RTG cranes come equipped with a low-emission diesel engine and all-electric trolley, wheel turning and spreader. This 'all-electric' concept, without the need for hydraulics, means that parts are easy to access and fewer components than ever require maintenance. The E-One+ RTGs offer reliability and cost efficiency while also meeting the toughest environmental standards on pollution, discharges, noise, safety and working environment.

The Port of Livorno is a multipurpose port – located on the Tyrrhenian Sea – connecting Italy with North America, South America, the Middle and the Far East, and Australia. Handling 20 million tons of goods annually, Livorno not only moves containerized cargo but also deals with bulk liquids and solids, motor vehicles, cellulose pulp and timber, general cargo, minerals and iron manufacturing products, cereals, fruit and frozen products.

Terminal Darsena Toscana is Livorno largest container operator with actual annual throughput of more than 600,000 TEU.
