Cargotec gains major order for Kalmar E-One² RTGs at Evyap Port in Turkey

10/11/2009

Press release,10November 2009
Cargotec has been awarded a contract to supply six Kalmar E-One² rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to Evyap Port in Turkey, to assist with the port's continued expansion. The machines will be delivered by July 2010. The order was booked in the fourth quarter 2009 order intake.

The 7+1 wide and 1-over-6 high RTGs feature the latest technology and will be equipped with an autosteering and container position verification system, Kalmar Smartrail and remote diagnostics. Kalmar E-One² is the latest RTG model and meets the latest safety and environmental demands, whilst remaining productive and cost-effective. With a Variable Speed Generator (VSG) the engine runs at a lower RPM level when idling. Furthermore, the system automatically optimises engine speed according to the power required, resulting in lower fuel consumption.

By automating the steering, Kalmar Smartrail enables the driver to travel at maximum speed between lifts and to concentrate on picking up or setting down containers. This results in faster and safer operations.

Cargotec Vice President, Yard Cranes, Raimo Ukkonen, commented that the increasing business from Evyap comes as a direct result of their close working partnership.

“We strengthened our cooperation with Evyap in 2007 to increase their container throughput capacity. In those days they were operating with just two mobile harbor cranes, three Kalmar reachstackers and two Kalmar empty container handlers.

“After a thorough investigation on how to maximize efficiency and reach capacity goals, Evyap turned to Cargotec. The recent order will bring the total number of Kalmar RTGs ordered by Evyap to ten, Raimo Ukkonen said.

Evyap Logistics operates the Evyap Container Terminal, situated 70 kms east of the Bosphorus at the Anatolian side of Istanbul. The Evyapport facility, accessible to approximately 60 percent of Turkey industry, covers 135,000 sq m of land and utilizes a 600m berthing length.
