Cargotec secures turn-key Siwertell unloading systems contract for new Singapore power plant

03/06/2010

CARGOTEC CORPORATION TRADE PRESS RELEASE 3 JUNE AT 11 AM EEST

TP Utilities' new biomass/coal-fired power plant in Singapore has specified a Cargotec fuel receiving system for its efficiency and environmental qualities
Cargotec signed in March a turn-key agreement with the Japanese engineering, procurement and construction contractor, Marubeni Corporation, for the delivery of a fuel receiving system. It is designed to handle biomass (palm kernel shells) and coal and will be delivered to TP Utilities Pte Ltd's new biomass/coal-fired power plant in Singapore, scheduled to enter operation in mid-2012.The fuel receiving system consists of a Siwertell ship unloader, a control system and a chain of belt conveyors and bucket elevators that are designed to feed a flat storage area and silo. Construction, installation, start-up, commissioning and testing and training, as well as supervision, are also included in the contract. The system is designed for receiving fuel via seaborne transportation and will be able to maintain a rated capacity of 1,000 tph when unloading coal and 300 tph when unloading biomass.Jan Karlsson, Cargotec's sales director for bulk handling systems, says that: "The customer requires a system that is able to feed the new power plant with fuel. Singapore is a resource-scarce country and needs to import all fuels for power generation. "Singaporean legislation is also quite strict on environmental issues and provides little, or no room for dust and spillage issues; hence, the plant's requirements for a totally-enclosed fuel receiving system."Cargotec was chosen for the contract because of the proven capabilities of our Siwertell ship unloader, our experience in fuel handling systems, our experience in deliveries to Singapore, the efficiency of the system as a whole, and, most importantly, its environmentally-friendly characteristics. The ship unloader is totally enclosed along the entire conveying line to the storage facilities. It offers a very efficient unloading operation at high capacities, as high as the company wanted, and is also able to handle both coal and biomass". [ends]
