Trade Press Release

Générale de Manutention Portuaire expands with an order for 14 Kalmar Edrive straddle carriers

30/09/2010

CARGOTEC CORPORATION, TRADE PRESS RELEASE, 30 SEPTEMBER 2010 AT 12:00 NOON (EEST)

Cargotec has received an order for 14 Kalmar Edrive straddle carriers from Générale de Manutention Portuaire (GMP) - a joint venture between terminal operator DP World and shipping company CMA-CGM at the port of Le Havre in France. The Kalmar ESC450W model is the most environmentally friendly straddle carrier offered by Cargotec further signifying GMP's desire to reduce harmful emissions at the port while lowering its fuel consumption. The units will be delivered in the first quarter of 2011.

GMP's new all-electric straddle carriers will come equipped with twin-lift spreaders capable of lifting loads of up to 50 tonnes. Built to stack 4-high, the machines will help GMP meet the demands of its expanding container handling operations at the port of Le Havre. This port handles more than 60 per cent of France's annual container traffic and has been consistently adding more capacity per GMP's terminal expansion plans.

"Since the early 1990s, we have supplied over 60 Kalmar straddle carriers to GMP. We are very pleased to receive this latest order for 14 new straddle carriers," says Damien Cols, Director, Global Customers for Cargotec. "The close cooperation between us and the customer will ensure that these machines perform at the optimum level."

GMP has opted for Kalmar 7+ generation ESC W straddle carriers featuring electrically controlled engines, a variable speed generator (VSG) system and a winch hoist system with full AC drives. This combination further reduces emissions and fuel consumption making them the most cost-effective and eco-friendly machines on the market. The 7+ generation also feature a modular and compact power electrics design, improved access to the power pack for easier maintenance, and a fuel-efficient and reliable visco fan as standard.
