MacGREGOR wins combined crane and hatch cover contracts for Buss newbuildingsMacGREGOR has won crane and hatch cover orders for ten 30,000dwt general cargo ships being built at a Chinese shipyard for Hermann BussTen 30,000dwt general cargo ships that are being built for German owner Herman Buss will now feature MacGREGOR cranes and hatch covers in contracts worth over US$30 million. MacGREGOR Cranes will deliver 40 GL-type cranes (GL6020/5024/4030 + 2430 in grab operation), with four specified per ship; five of the vessels will have additional grab control systems. Delivery is planned to start from spring 2009 and continue at two-monthly intervals. The Group Dry Cargo division will supply folding weatherdeck hatch covers, the hydraulic system, fixed container lashing equipment for the deck and holds, and lift-away tweendeck hatch covers. Equipment is scheduled for delivery between 2008 and 2010. Tomi Sundell, director of General Cargo ships at MacGREGOR Dry Cargo division, said that Buss is an important customer for MacGREGOR and its vessels have benefited from MacGREGOR hatch cover technology for many years, but this is the first time that the company has ordered MacGREGOR cranes or combined outfits of both hatch covers and cranes. This cargo-handling combination will work very efficiently and provide the owner with technical advantages. Also, the tweendeck hatch covers that MacGREGOR is supplying are of a special new design with removable foundation element.
