More MacGREGOR ramp/doors for Grimaldi RoRo tonnageCargo access for the latest series of multipurpose RoRo carriers commissioned by the Grimaldi group from Fincantieri yards in Italy will again be based on a large stern quarter ramp/door from MacGREGOR Fleet investment by the major Italian shipping group Grimaldi is sustained by five 25,000 dwt newbuildings booked from Fincantieri Palermo yard (two), Castellamare di Stabia yard (two) and Ancona yard (one), with deliveries due in 2002-2003. The RoRo access outfit and multi-deck design allow the swift handling and stowage of cars, containers and diverse rolling freight for deepsea services. Fincantieri has already delivered 15 large RoRo carriers to Grimaldi since 1986 (five with MacGREGOR cargo access shipsets comprising stern ramp and cardecks; the other ten with MacGREGOR stern ramps), the new tonnage extending a series headed by Grande America from the Palermo yard in 1997. These were assigned to the group North Europe-Brazil/Argentina service. RoRo access at the stern will be provided by a MacGREGOR starboard quarter ramp/door constructed in three sections with an overall length of 35.5m. The ramp, with a minimum/maximum driveway of 8m/15.5m, leads to a 16.5m-wide x 6.1m-high clear opening in the hull. A part of the first ramp section is designed to function as a watertight door. MacGREGOR will also be responsible for installing the ramps. For further information, please contact: Mr Massimo Triglia, Branch Manager, MacGREGOR (ITA) SpA |
