Reaching new heights with Kalmar’s 2002 reachstacker models

Kalmar Industries, the world’s leading manufacturer of mobile container handling equipment, will present its 2002 model ContChamp reachstacker and its 2002 model ContMaster reachstacker at the Hanover Fair, in Germany from 15-20 April 2002.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to view the ContChamp 2002 in close detail as it will provide the focus for Kalmar’s stand (A10, hall 26) at the show.

The ContChamp reachstacker is Kalmar’s most technically advanced handling solution, suitable for intermodal, barge handling and industrial applications. Whilst still being tailor made for each individual customer, the ContChamp 2002 is now available with much shorter lead-times. New features, such as a synchronised extension in the spreader, have also been added. Notably, the addition of new features is not at the expense of the older ones, as the ContChamp 2002 retains many of the characteristics for which it is renown:

-Excellent safety and ergonomics as a result of continual refinement, utilising customer feedback
-An advanced Electronic Control System (ECS) unit via which it is possible to monitor all the necessary operational functions of the machines
-Stronger and reliable lift cylinders
-Shortened rear-boom section enabling it to work in narrower aisles
-Spreader features with altered mounting points so that the rear twistlocks always make contact with the container first, serving to enhance efficiency
- A hydraulic system based on Rexroth hydraulic pumps

The ContMaster has also undergone some changes for 2002. The machine, which is widely known as ‘the higher standard stacker’, is regarded as the work horse of the reachstacker family. Constructed for performance and reliability and designed to appeal to a broad customer base, the ContMaster represents excellent value for money and is available virtually on demand. The 2002 model now comes with a choice of stage two engines where required by the market – either the Cummins QSM11 or the Scania DS12. In addition, the ContMaster 2002 comes with a heavy duty oil cooler.

The improvements made to the ContChamp and ContMaster have proved popular with customers around the world. Recent orders for the machines include:

-Four units, with a 42 ton lift capacity, to be used for container handling in Malaysia
- Six units, with a 42-45 ton lift capacity, to be used for container handling in Indonesia
-Two units, with a 45 ton lift capacity, to be used for container handling in Columbia
-Six units, with a 45 ton lift capacity, for use in Brazil
-Four units, with 45 ton lift capacity, to be used for container handling in Turkey
-Four units, with 45 ton lift capacity, to be used for container handling in Portugal
-Two units, with a 25 ton lift capacity, to be used for barge handling in France
- One unit, with a 45 ton lift capacity, to be used for barge handling in The Netherlands
