Cargotec proceeds with plans for a competence and technology centre in Tampere, Finland and starts cooperation negotiations

9/1/2010

CARGOTEC CORPORATION, PRESS RELEASE, 1 SEPTEMBER 2010 AT 10:00 A.M. (EEST)

Cargotec Corporation proceeds with plans to transform its Tampere unit into a competence and technology centre. The focus of the Tampere unit is planned to change from traditional manufacturing to developing new products and solutions. Consequently, Cargotec starts employee cooperation negotiations about possible reduction of work force with the current supply personnel in Tampere. The possible reduction measures are estimated to affect approximately 95 employees and the planned change is estimated to take approximately two years.

The Tampere competence and technology centre is planned to be one of the major hubs for Cargotec's Industrial & Terminal (I&T) business area, including also a prototype and testing workshop.  In addition to I&T, personnel also from other Cargotec functions such as services, sales and corporate functions would be working in the Tampere competence and technology centre.

Cargotec plans to move to a more suitable site with modern premises that would also suit for competence and technology centre purposes. Cargotec has started a process for acquiring land in Tampere.

The total amount of personnel in Tampere is currently approximately 430.
