Kalmar Industries South Africa (Pty) Ltd will be responsible for the sales and service of straddle carriers, RTG cranes and terminal tractors, while other Kalmar products, for example, reachstackers and lift trucks, will continue to be sold through existing partner Saficon.

The merger of ANE service business for Kalmar straddle carriers and RTG cranes secures Kalmar commitment to South African Port Operations (SAPO) as a full service partner and also forms a solid basis for further business development in South Africa.

According to Juhani Lukumaa, President, Kalmar Container Handling, the merger of ANE service business into the local subsidiary reinforces Kalmar desire to playing an integral role in the development of the country port industry together with SAPO.

SAPO is our preferred partner and we are proud they have chosen to work with Kalmar in their efforts to develop the ports of South Africa. Kalmar Industries South Africa (Pty) Ltd now has a full service team to bring the best service and support to SAPO, he said.

SAPO is undertaking several projects in South Africa to modernise existing ports and establish new facilities. Total container volume at SAPO facilities will approach 3 million TEU in 2006, continuing the healthy growth trend of recent years.
